Chef Gwyn Novak, Owner of No Thyme to Cook was chosen to participate in Gov. Larry Hogan's 2016 Buy Local Cookout. As one of 117 chefs chosen to participate in this event, Gwyn prepared and served over 550 guests' an appetizer consisting of grilled peaches, toasted pecans and goat cheese salad with a honey and orange vinaigrette. So many exciting milestones have been reached by No Thyme to Cook since becoming a client of SBDC. In November 2017 Gwyn was able to open a retail
store "Provisions." "After nearly three years of planning and building, No Thyme to Cook, Southern Maryland’s Home for Cooking Classes, has moved
into its new kitchens. Located on the harbor in Solomons Island, the nearly 4,000 square foot building features state of the art teaching kitchens
on two floors and so much more." Read more ...
As if that wasn't enough . . . No Thyme to Cook also acquired a historic buyboat. "After more than 15 years in Baltimore and Washington, the historic Chesapeake Bay buyboat Half Shell is making her way to Solomons Island. From her new home at No Thyme to Cook (formerly Bowen’s Inn), Half Shell will offer seasonal all-you-can-eat crab feasts and oyster scalds aboard her deck while cruising the scenic Patuxent River. She will also be available for private charters, school groups, weddings, nautical hayrides, scotch & cigar tastings, wine & beer pairings, and much more."
“We believe she will be a fabulous addition to life on Solomons Island,” said Gwyn Novak, No Thyme to Cook chef and owner. “Restaurants are wonderful, but dining aboard the Half Shell will be a completely unique experience unlike any other in the area. We’re so excited to introduce this beautiful historic boat to the Southern Maryland community.” Read more ...
SBDC Business Consultant Kathy MacAdams worked closely with Gwyn as she selected products for retail, worked through construction of a new cooking studio,
making connections within the local ecosystem and acquasystem regarding farm/fishery to table and celebrated the Grand Opening on May 19, 2018.
"Outside the building Novak and her husband Donald are opening Steamers Seafood Shack – essentially a food truck featuring the freshest local seafood
around. "My husband is a commercial fisherman, so we are passionate about supporting local watermen," Novak explained. "We'll be buying right off the
boat. It doesn't get much fresher than that." Steamers' menu includes seasonal fresh and steamed crabs, oysters, clams, and shrimp to name a few. All
of which is available for carry-out as well as private parties and crab feasts."
