Lauren Hamilton has always had an eye for design and started freelancing as a designer in 2019. She was interested in registering her side-hustle and growing to launch her own design company. Lauren Hamilton is the Owner and Founder of Big Mouth Creative LLC in Hanover, MD. She founded her business as a college sophomore, with the aim of creating expressive designs for women entrepreneurs. She met with the Maryland SBDC in 2020 to register her business with the State of Maryland as an LLC.

Lauren met with her SBDC Business Consultant, Candace Pruett, DBA to walk her through the process of registering her business and establishing her "BAIL" team to consist of her banker, accountant, insurance agent, and legal resources. Lauren has established her own business bookkeeping system and now streamlines the invoicing and payment processing for her clients. Lauren meets with her consultant quarterly for check-ins to discuss business operations, financials, and marketing for her business. Lauren has mentioned feedback on the SBDC services explaining, "Candace Pruett was extremely kind and informational and was extremely knowledgeable on all of the resources I could use to get my business on track for success."

Her firm has grown in 2021. Among other projects, she worked to create several illustrations that are featured on notebooks, available nationwide in Target stores, for the Black-owned stationery company Be Rooted. She has also landed a position as a contractor with her dream design agency and looks forward to working on more projects, especially those that are meaningful to her. Lauren not only launched her business but is pursuing a bachelor's degree in Multiplatform Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park.
