Why They Came to the SBDC 

Justin Volman approached the Maryland SBDC to refine his business plan, strengthen his  financial projections, and build a capability statement to market to both private companies  and government entities. He also needed help navigating Maryland’s eMaryland  Marketplace Advantage (eMMA) registration, exploring funding opportunities, and  developing a professional website presence. 

How the SBDC Helped 

Under Ms. Braxton’s guidance, Volman HR Strategy: 

• Established officially in March 2025, securing its Articles of Organization, opening a  business bank account, and making its first equity investment. 
• Created a polished business plan using LivePlan, with Braxton providing detailed  feedback to strengthen market size, sales, and marketing strategy. 
• Developed a capability statement, revised to highlight Volman’s credentials, global  hiring record, and data-backed HR insights. 
• Explored funding options including the BGE Energizing Small Business Grant and  reviewed best practices for establishing lines of credit and insurance coverage.
• Engaged in key training opportunities, including Montgomery County’s Open for  Business event, SBDC webinars on pricing, LinkedIn marketing, and government  contracting.
