Bayview United Homecare Services LLC – Bringing Care to Families in Southern Maryland
Building a Foundation
In 2024, Roland connected with the Maryland SBDC at the College of Southern Maryland. With guidance from consultants James Vasquez and Bill Hitte, he received support in financial projections, marketing, compliance, and operational planning. The SBDC also connected him with the Maryland Business Opportunity Center for legal advisory support to finalize policies and procedures.
After 10 years of military service, Roland Barnes Sr. was ready to serve his community in a new way. In May 2024, he founded Bayview United Homecare Services LLC, a business dedicated to providing compassionate, non-medical personal care services to families in Southern Maryland.
Challenges and Persistence
At the start, Bayview United faced common early-stage hurdles: securing state licensing, developing a strong business plan, and understanding legal and liability requirements. Roland worked tirelessly, often balancing a full-time job while building his company structure and preparing for launch.
SBDC’s Role
Growth and Expansion
By mid-2025, Roland had achieved a major milestone: Bayview United officially opened its doors. The company now employs four full-time and two part-time staff, has implemented a CRM system for efficiency, and continues to refine its marketing and operational strategies. Roland invested more than $10,000 of personal funds to ensure his business could start debt-free.
Community Engagement
As a member of the Charles County Chamber of Commerce, Roland is building relationships to strengthen his business and expand services in the community.
Reflections
Roland credits the Maryland SBDC for equipping him with the tools and guidance to transform his idea into a sustainable business. "Thanks again for meeting with me last week," said Roland. "I really gained some valuable information that will help me with my start-up process."
